Toyama City General Gymnasium to reopen as YKK AP Arena

The Toyama City General Gymnasium is scheduled to undergo renovation starting August 2025, reopening on October 1, 2026, as the ‘Toyama City Machinaka Arena’. Through a naming rights agreement, the facility will be officially known as the ‘YKK AP Arena’.

This project marks the first implementation of the ‘R-concession’ model for an arena in Japan, integrating design, construction, maintenance, and management to leverage private sector expertise. The facility is designed as a dual-purpose venue that serves both professional sports spectators and local citizens for daily physical activities.

Key upgrades include meeting the ‘B.PREMIER’ standards of the B.League to serve as the home arena for the Toyama Grouses. The arena will feature seating for over 5,000 spectators, new suite rooms, a lounge cafe, and updated audiovisual equipment such as a center-hung vision system. Additionally, the renovation focuses on barrier-free accessibility and facility longevity through updated air conditioning and lighting systems.
