Toyama Prefecture records record-breaking late summer heat
On October 21, 2026, five locations across Toyama Prefecture recorded summer-like temperatures (manatsubi) exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. The heat was driven by warm air flowing from the edge of the Pacific High toward a low-pressure system in the Sea of Japan, despite the influence of a cold front that brought rain to the region.
Toyama City and Uozu City recorded temperatures of 30.4 and 30.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, marking the latest recorded summer-like days in their histories. Previously, the latest summer-like day for central Toyama City was October 15, 1951, while Uozu City's record was October 12, 1994. Other high readings included 31.7 degrees Celsius at Akigashima (Toyama Airport) and 30.3 degrees Celsius in Nanto City.
The Toyama Local Meteorological Observatory warned of the potential for heavy rainfall, noting that if rain clouds stagnate or develop more than expected, they could reach warning levels.
