Toyin Abraham and Funke Akindele set for December box-office showdown

Nollywood filmmakers Toyin Abraham and Funke Akindele are set for a high-stakes box-office competition this December. Abraham announced that her new film, ‘Bestie’, will premiere in cinemas nationwide on December 16, 2026.

This release follows closely after Akindele’s upcoming project, ‘The Four: No One Fights Alone’, which is scheduled for a global cinema release on December 11. Akindele’s film features an ensemble cast including Richard Mofe-Damijo and Bisola Aiyeola.

The proximity of these release dates has reignited a long-standing rivalry between the two actresses and their respective fanbases. Abraham recently sparked social media debate by declaring herself the ‘greatest of all time’ (GOAT) in the movie industry, a claim that was met with pushback from Akindele’s supporters.

Abraham enters the festive season with significant momentum following the success of her previous release, ‘Oversabi Aunty’, which surpassed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.
