Toyota Alphard to undergo major 2027 update
Toyota is preparing a major update for its Alphard premium minivan, expected in 2027. This significant overhaul will likely include a refreshed exterior design, specifically targeting the front grille and headlight assembly to create a sharper appearance. The update coincides with a planned shift in production from the Toyota Auto Body Inabe Plant to the Tahara Plant by the end of 2027.
This move is seen as a strategic response to Nissan, which is set to release a new Elgrand in July 2026 featuring e-POWER technology and advanced electronic suspension. While the Alphard's powertrain is expected to focus on refining existing hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems rather than a complete overhaul, improvements in fuel efficiency, quietness, and driving stability are anticipated.
Separately, the rising interest rate environment is impacting consumer financing for high-end vehicles like the Alphard. For buyers using residual value credit (Zankure), even a 1% increase in interest rates can significantly raise total interest costs. While this financing method lowers monthly payments by setting aside a future residual value, consumers face risks regarding mileage limits and vehicle condition requirements upon return.
