Toyota and Hyundai lead vehicle reliability rankings
Recent reliability studies from What Car and Autocar have identified several vehicle models noted for their long-term durability and low maintenance requirements. The concept of a ‘forever car’ focuses on reliability, ease of maintenance, and potential classic status.
Toyota models emerged as strong performers. The current generation Toyota Corolla received a 9/10 rating for long-term ownership, while the Toyota Land Cruiser (produced between 2010 and 2023) earned a 10/10 score due to its robust construction. In the small car category, the Toyota Aygo X achieved a 99.7% reliability rating, indicating almost no reported breakdowns or repair costs among owners.
Hyundai also saw significant success, with the current generation Hyundai i10 receiving a perfect 100% reliability score. Other notable mentions include the third-generation Audi TT and the Mini Cooper (2014–2024 models). The data suggests that while small cars are often chosen for economy, certain models provide exceptional reliability even under heavy urban driving conditions.
