Toyota and JARTIC provide real-time road data for Chiba flood recovery
Following heavy rainfall and flooding in Chiba Prefecture on August 13, the Japan Road Traffic Information Center (JARTIC) has launched a disaster information service to provide real-time road accessibility data. This service aggregates vehicle passage data from five major manufacturers: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Isuzu, and Hino.
Users can view road passage history filtered by the latest 1, 3, or 6 hours. The service also displays information regarding road closures, lane restrictions, emergency transport routes, and detours. This initiative aims to assist in navigating areas affected by flooding and traffic disruptions caused by recent extreme weather.
Separately, Toyota has updated its “Passable Road Map” to prioritize the Chiba area. This tool uses probe information from Toyota’s telematics services to show roads that vehicles have successfully traversed within the last three hours. The map also includes experimental features such as estimated flood information and locations of Toyota dealerships capable of disaster support or vehicle power supply.
