Toyota and Lexus show divergent hybrid sales trends in Mexico
In September 2026, Toyota and Lexus demonstrated different electrification trends within the Mexican automotive market. While both brands are committed to electrified technologies, the proportional impact of hybrids varies significantly between the two.
Toyota reported that conventional hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) accounted for 44% of its monthly sales in Mexico, totaling 4,501 units out of 10,205 vehicles sold. The brand also sold 153 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), such as the RAV4. Toyota’s sales volume was distributed across various segments, including the Hilux, Yaris sedan, Avanza, and Tacoma.
In contrast, Lexus saw a much higher reliance on hybrid technology, with HEVs representing 75% of its total sales for the month.
