Toyota and Subaru announce updated vehicle models for Japan
Several automotive manufacturers are introducing updated vehicle models in the Japanese market.
Toyota has announced updates for its JPN TAXI, a specialized vehicle designed for universal accessibility. Scheduled for release on May 12, 2026, the updated model features improved safety functions, including a new brake light indicator that synchronizes with the Toyota Safety Sense system to visually confirm automatic braking. The vehicle utilizes a 1.5L LPG hybrid system.
Toyota is also updating its Yaris compact car line, with the entry-level X (2WD) model launching on March 2, 2026. This model features a 1.0L three-cylinder engine and offers high fuel efficiency, achieving over 20 km/L under WLTC standards. The Yaris X is positioned as a highly cost-effective option, with a starting price lower than the popular Honda N-BOX.
Subaru is preparing a minor update for its Justy, a compact tall wagon developed in collaboration with Daihatsu. Expected to launch on September 7, 2026, the update will focus on upgrading the ‘Smart Assist’ safety suite to include detection for pedestrians, cyclists, and oncoming vehicles during right turns. While the exterior and interior designs are expected to remain largely unchanged, the update aims to maintain the model's utility within the Subaru dealership network.
