Toyota and Subaru automotive concepts and market expansions
Automotive interest remains high for Toyota’s Tj Cruiser concept vehicle. Originally unveiled at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, the Tj Cruiser is a compact SUV concept designed to blend MPV convenience with SUV utility. It features a boxy design, dual sliding doors for easier access in tight spaces, and a highly practical interior capable of transporting long items like surfboards. While the concept was designed around a 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain and the TNGA platform, Toyota has not yet announced plans for mass production.
Separately, Subaru is considering introducing its large Ascent SUV to the Japanese market. Currently sold primarily in North America, the Ascent is a three-row SUV measuring nearly 5 meters in length. The upcoming 2027 model year updates include new color options and enhanced LED lighting. The vehicle utilizes Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and EyeSight driver assistance technology, powered by a 2.4L turbocharged boxer engine. The potential expansion of the Ascent to Japan could significantly impact the domestic large SUV segment.
