Toyota announces new engine and hybrid systems for Europe

Toyota is preparing to introduce a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a next-generation hybrid system to the European market, a move designed to enable lower bonnet heights.

In broader strategic developments, Toyota aims to transition over 50 vehicle models to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) equipped with its ‘Arene’ platform by the early 2030s, targeting a volume of over 10 million units. The company is also advancing autonomous driving technology, with Level 2++ systems featuring proprietary AI and guardrail mechanisms expected to enter the market by 2028.

Other notable automotive industry updates include Honda and Mitsubishi Motors signing a memorandum of understanding to develop a model based on the Triton for Honda by 2028, and Alpine announcing the upcoming Japanese launch of the A290 electric hot hatch.
