Toyota Australia agrees to $750 million DPF class action settlement

Toyota Australia has agreed to a $750 million settlement to resolve two class action lawsuits regarding defective diesel particulate filters (DPFs). The legal proceedings involve approximately 264,170 HiLux, Prado, and Fortuner vehicles acquired in Australia between October 1, 2015, and April 23, 2020.

The settlement covers both the original Williams class action, which began in 2019, and the Taylor class action, which was launched in July 2025. The latter includes owners who purchased affected vehicles privately from original owners between April 24, 2020, and July 31, 2025.

The proposed settlement is subject to approval by the Federal Court of Australia. A Toyota Australia spokesperson stated that the company remains committed to providing a free-of-charge remedy and apologized for any inconvenience experienced by customers.
