Toyota Australia recalls 17,000 HiLux Rogue vehicles over roller cover defect

Toyota Australia has launched a Customer Service Exercise affecting 16,995 Toyota HiLux Rogue dual-cab utility vehicles produced between 2020 and 2024. The recall addresses a defect in the standard power-operated roller cover.

The company stated that the roller cover may jam or fail to open or close properly. If this occurs, the motor may remain active, which could lead to overheating. To rectify the issue, dealers will inspect the motor for overheating evidence and replace it if necessary. The repair process also involves inspecting or adjusting the roller cover track width, updating the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software, and installing metal drive pin connectors where required.

The software update is designed to improve the limit-switch logic to reduce overheating risks and will add functionality allowing the cover to be operated via the vehicle’s key fob or door trim switches. The fix is expected to take up to 3.5 hours, though availability may vary based on workshop schedules.
