Toyota bZ4X electric crossover production expands with new Touring variant

Toyota is building its bZ electric crossover at the historic Motomachi plant in Toyota City, Japan. The plant, known for low‑volume, high‑tech models, has been producing vehicles since 1959 and now assembles the bZ4X, featuring a floor‑mounted battery, renewable‑energy use in the factory and a focus on reducing CO₂ across the value chain. The model is part of Toyota’s “Beyond‑Zero” strategy and was co‑developed with Subaru, sharing components with the Subaru Solterra.

A French road‑test of the newly introduced bZ4X Touring version highlighted its extended body, larger cargo capacity (669 L) and rugged styling. The Touring adds 14 cm of rear overhang, raising length to 4.83 m while keeping a 2.85 m wheelbase. Power ranges from 224 hp (2‑wheel‑drive) to 380 hp (all‑wheel‑drive) with 0‑100 km/h in about 4.5 s. The 71 kWh battery gives around 500 km real‑world range. Pricing starts at €48,400 for front‑wheel drive and €51,900 for the top AWD model, with a ten‑year or one‑million‑km battery warranty.
