Brazil electric SUV market expands with Toyota bZ4X launch and new Chinese entrants

Toyota introduced its first fully electric SUV to Brazil, the bZ4X, priced at R$ 419,900 with a limited run of 99 units. The all‑wheel‑drive version delivers 343 hp and accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while the front‑wheel‑drive model offers a 361 km range on a 73.1 kWh battery. The vehicle comes with a five‑year unlimited‑kilometre warranty and a suite of driver‑assist features.

A recent study by Evoy Administradora de Consórcios notes that Brazil’s Generation Z is increasingly turning to consortia financing to purchase their first car, especially as electrified vehicles capture 16 % of light‑vehicle sales (38 000 units) in April 2026. The consortia market now has 12.94 million active participants, with 5.4 million members in vehicle groups.

Chinese manufacturers are also entering the market. Jetour’s T2 SUV, which has already sold 500 000 units worldwide, is slated to launch a 4×4 version in Brazil later in 2026. Leapmotor unveiled the B10 electric SUV locally, featuring a 218‑horsepower rear‑wheel‑drive motor, an 8.8‑inch digital cluster, a 14.6‑inch infotainment screen, and an extensive safety suite.

In broader SUV sales, Volkswagen’s T‑Cross led June 2026 with 9 479 units sold, followed by the Tera (6 843) and BYD’s Song (5 137). The market shows strong demand for both conventional and electric SUVs.
