Toyota Corolla 2026 hatchback adds safety upgrades, FX Edition

Toyota Motor Corporation unveiled the 2026 Corolla hatchback, keeping the 2.0‑liter four‑cylinder engine and CVT Dynamic Shift while standardising the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, which now includes blind‑spot monitoring. Three trims are offered – SE, XSE and a limited‑run FX Edition of 1,600 units that pays tribute to the 1980s Corolla FX16 with retro‑styled 18‑inch wheels and sport‑touring seats. Prices rise modestly, with the SE starting at $24,180, the XSE at $24,875 and the FX Edition at $26,780, reflecting the added safety and interior features such as wireless charging and an 8‑inch infotainment screen.

In a separate internal documentary shown with NHK, Toyota previewed the next‑generation Corolla sedan, echoing design cues from the recent Corolla Concept shown at Japan Mobility Show 2025. The concept features a sharply sloped front, a low‑raked window line and a long roofline, suggesting a crossover‑inspired silhouette. Toyota confirmed the upcoming model will be offered with hybrid, plug‑in hybrid and battery‑electric powertrains, and hinted that a new GR Corolla may also arrive alongside the new generation.
