Toyota Corolla Altis sales end in Vietnam as sedan demand wanes

Toyota confirmed that the Corolla Altis will cease distribution in Vietnam from June 2026, with no plan to re‑introduce the model. The decision follows a sharp drop in sales: 1,430 units in 2023, 436 in 2024, only 285 in 2025 (about 24 a month), and just 16 units in the first five months of 2026.

The decline is attributed to Vietnamese buyers shifting toward higher‑ground‑clearance vehicles such as SUVs, crossovers and MPVs. Toyota Vietnam is redirecting resources toward stronger models like the Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross and Veloz Cross, leaving only the hatchback Wigo, sedans Vios and Camry, and the discontinued Yaris in its low‑ground‑clearance lineup.

The Corolla Altis, first locally assembled in 1997 and now imported from Thailand in its twelfth generation launched in 2022, remains a globally significant model with over 50 million units sold since its 1966 debut. In Vietnam, the C‑segment sedan market is now limited to a few rivals such as the Hyundai Elantra, Kia K3, Mazda 3 and Honda Civic.
