Toyota Corolla celebrates 60 years with Mississippi production and future hybrid plans
Toyota is marking the 60th anniversary of the Corolla, highlighting the role of its manufacturing plant in Blue Springs, Mississippi. Since beginning production in 2011, the Mississippi facility has invested over $1.3 billion in the state economy and currently employs 2,400 people. The plant focuses solely on Corolla assembly, producing an average of more than 180,000 units annually.
Looking toward the future, industry analysts suggest a next-generation Corolla could arrive in 2027 as a 2028 model. This upcoming iteration may feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a redesigned TNGA-C platform capable of supporting gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric versions. Toyota has also signaled a potential shift toward a streamlined liftback design and more fuel-efficient engine configurations.
