Toyota dominates Indonesian automotive production and sales

Toyota is demonstrating significant growth and market dominance in Indonesia's automotive sector. Between January and August 2026, Toyota accounted for 41.2 percent of total national vehicle production, manufacturing 353,778 units out of a total 859,256 produced by 32 manufacturers.

Wholesale sales for Toyota reached 175,932 units during the same period, a 9 percent increase compared to the previous year. This growth is largely driven by a surge in electrification; sales of xEV models jumped 86 percent to 38,769 units, while conventional internal combustion engine sales saw a slight decline.

In specific regions like Yogyakarta and Central Java, Toyota's dealer network, Nasmoco, reported a recovery in sales following a period of decline caused by the implementation of regional vehicle taxes (opsen). After a 30 percent market drop due to these tax adjustments, sales have begun to stabilize and rise as consumers adapt to the new pricing structures. Additionally, Toyota is preparing to expand its SUV lineup with the expected launch of the Land Cruiser FJ in Indonesia by late 2026.
