Toyota delays Highlander EV production to 2027

Toyota has announced a delay in the production and launch of its upcoming Highlander EV. Originally slated to begin production in 2026, the timeline has been pushed back, with potential starts ranging from late spring to the end of 2027. The delay, which could span between four and 12 months, is reportedly due to the need for final testing and technical refinements to ensure product quality.

The Highlander EV is a three-row SUV expected to offer a base front-wheel-drive model with at least 287 miles of range, while an upgraded version with a larger battery pack is projected to exceed 320 miles. This move is part of Toyota’s evolving electric vehicle strategy as the company expands its lineup beyond its traditional focus on hybrid powertrains.

In addition to the Highlander, Toyota is expanding its consumer EV offerings. The new C-HR, which features all-wheel drive as standard on its base $37,080 model, is part of a broader push to increase the number of electric nameplates available to consumers.
