Toyota expands electric vehicle testing and regional market presence

Toyota is expanding its electric vehicle presence through new model testing and regional subsidy benefits. In Japan, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has increased regional subsidies for electrified vehicles. Electric models can receive a bonus of approximately 1.3 million yen, while hybrids are eligible for 1.15 million yen. Manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, and Nissan can receive additional maximum subsidies of 400,000 yen per vehicle based on specific criteria.

In Brazil, a new generation of the Toyota Hilux has been spotted undergoing testing in an electric configuration. The vehicle, identified by a charging port located in front of the driver's door, was seen in Canaã dos Carajás, Pará. This development follows similar sightings in Argentina. While the ninth generation of the Hilux is expected to be a significant technical evolution rather than a complete redesign, production is anticipated to begin in December 2026, with a commercial launch slated for 2027.
