Toyota Fortuner sales slump as diesel models withdrawn in Vietnam

Toyota has stopped offering diesel engines for the Fortuner SUV in Vietnam, leaving only gasoline variants (2.7 L). The change, effective from early 2026, raised the base price to VND 1.155 billion, above the VND 1.129 billion price of the competing Ford Everest.

Fortuner’s sales have dropped sharply: only 110 units were sold in May 2026, compared with 1,062 Everest units, a ratio of roughly one‑tenth. The slowdown is attributed to a lack of major design and equipment updates for the local model, while the global Fortuner is rumored to be headed for a full redesign similar to the new Hilux. Toyota may introduce the next‑generation Fortuner to Vietnam later, which could improve its competitiveness and sales performance.
