Toyota GR Corolla faces reported mechanical and reliability issues
The Toyota GR Corolla, a high-performance hot hatchback, is facing scrutiny regarding several mechanical and reliability concerns. Reported issues include accelerated clutch wear in manual transmission models, which may require replacement as frequently as every 20,000 miles during aggressive driving, and overheating in the rear differential and all-wheel-drive coupling. When the AWD system overheats, the vehicle may trigger a warning and revert to front-wheel drive.
Despite these challenges, the 2026 model shows performance improvements, being 0.7 seconds faster to 60 mph and 100 mph than its predecessor. The vehicle features a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 300 horsepower. While the eight-speed automatic transmission option avoids clutch-related issues, the manual version remains a focal point for enthusiasts and critics alike. Additionally, the introduction of the GRMN variant has sparked discussions regarding its value proposition and pricing.
