Toyota halts Corolla Altis sales as Vietnam sedan market shrinks

Toyota Vietnam confirmed that the Corolla Altis, a model that had been sold in the country for more than two decades, will cease distribution from June 2026. Sales of the sedan fell dramatically, reaching only 285 units in 2025 and dropping to zero in May 2026, prompting the manufacturer to restructure its product lineup.

The end of the Corolla Altis reflects a broader decline in Vietnam’s sedan segments. In the B‑segment, Toyota Vios sold only 4,113 units in the first five months of 2026 – a 63.5% drop from the same period in 2022 – while Hyundai Accent fell almost 80% to 1,885 units. In the C‑segment, only a handful of models such as Mazda3, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and KIA K3 remain, and D‑segment sales are also low, with the Toyota Camry delivering just 31 units in May 2026.

Consumers are increasingly favouring SUVs and crossovers that offer higher ground clearance, better visibility and comparable pricing. The shift is accelerated by the entry of Chinese‑made models that have lowered overall vehicle prices, putting further pressure on low‑ground sedans.
