Toyota Hilux BEV earns five-star ANCAP safety rating, price premium in Australia

Toyota’s all‑electric Hilux pickup has been awarded a five‑star ANCAP safety rating, matching the scores of its diesel‑hybrid variants. The vehicle scored 84% for adult occupant protection, 89% for child occupant protection, 82% for vulnerable road‑user protection and 84% for safety assist. The rating covers all three Hilux BEV models confirmed for the New Zealand market – the SR Dual Cab Utility, SR Dual Cab Chassis and SR5 Dual Cab Utility.

The BEV began sales in Australia this month, with the entry‑level SR Dual Cab priced at A$74,990 plus on‑road costs. Compared with the diesel 48‑V mild‑hybrid SR 4×4 dual‑cab (A$59,490), the electric version carries roughly a 29% price premium. At the SR5 level, the BEV is priced around A$82,990 versus A$65,990 for the diesel analogue, a premium of about 26%. Toyota New Zealand has confirmed the model for local release but has not yet disclosed pricing, indicating a possible different positioning for that market.
