Toyota Hilux selected as popemobile for Pope Leo XIV's Argentina visit
Preparations are underway for Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming visit to Argentina in November. The Vatican has selected a locally produced Toyota Hilux as the base for the popemobile that will be used during his travels through the country.
Toyota has reportedly offered to manufacture and donate two vehicles to assist with logistics between Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján. The vehicles will be specially modified to provide increased height, security, and visibility, allowing the Pontiff to maintain contact with the faithful during public appearances.
While specific design details remain unconfirmed, discussions are ongoing regarding whether single-cab or double-cab models will be used. A single-cab configuration would offer more space in the rear for the papal structure, while a double-cab would provide more room for security personnel and staff. The vehicles are expected to be open-air configurations to facilitate closeness with the public.
