Toyota hybrid vehicles demonstrate high fuel efficiency in Vietnam

Hybrid technology serves as a transitional bridge between internal combustion engines and fully electric vehicles, offering various approaches to fuel efficiency and driving dynamics. While manufacturers like Hyundai focus on emotional driving experiences, Toyota has established a global leadership position in fuel optimization, reporting 4.4 million hybrid vehicle sales in 2025.

In Vietnam, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid has seen significant market traction, with over 3,000 units sold between the beginning of the year and July 2026. A study conducted by the Institute of Dynamics Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Toyota Vietnam, demonstrated the efficiency of this technology. The research compared the 1.8 HV hybrid version with the 1.8 V gasoline version, finding that the hybrid model can reduce fuel consumption by nearly 60% compared to the traditional gasoline version. Specifically, in urban congestion with average speeds of 20 km/h, the hybrid version consumed only 3.7 liters per 100 km, representing a 57.4% saving in fuel.
