Toyota becomes equal partner in hydrogen fuel‑cell venture Cellcentric

Toyota Motor Corporation has signed a binding agreement to acquire a one‑third ownership stake in Cellcentric, joining Daimler Truck AG and Volvo Group as equal shareholders. The three companies will each hold 33 % of the joint‑venture after the transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Cellcentric, founded in 2021 by Daimler Truck and Volvo, designs, manufactures and markets hydrogen fuel‑cell systems for heavy‑duty trucks, buses, off‑road equipment, rail vehicles, stationary power and related applications. The firm employs more than 560 staff at sites in Kirchheim unter Teck, Esslingen and Stuttgart in Germany and in Burnaby, Canada, and holds roughly 700 patents.

The partners say the deal will strengthen Cellcentric’s technological lead, industrial scaling and competitiveness while supporting the development of hydrogen supply‑chain infrastructure. Outside the venture, Daimler Truck, Volvo and Toyota will continue to compete independently in all other market segments.
