Toyota Land Cruiser reaches near‑million‑kilometre milestone

Advances in engine technology, materials and lubricants have extended modern vehicle lifespans far beyond the old belief that cars become unusable after 200,000 km or 10‑15 years. Proper maintenance, regular oil changes and careful driving can keep a car running for hundreds of thousands of kilometres.

A striking example is a 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series Sahara owned by Gary Driscoll in Victoria, Australia. The 4×4 has logged almost 1 000 000 km while retaining its original engine and transmission, and it has been serviced nearly 100 times. Driscoll is auctioning the vehicle through Auctions Plus, hoping to fetch between AU$20,000 and AU$30,000. The car’s high‑mileage status is unusual; the Horsham Toyota service centre says it is the first Land Cruiser they have seen approach a million kilometres, though Toyota acknowledges several Australian owners have reached similar milestones.
