Toyota launches 2026 GR86 Premium and teases electric Lexus LFA concept

Toyota unveiled the 2026 GR86 Premium, a rear‑wheel‑drive two‑door sports coupe powered by a 2.4‑liter horizontally opposed four‑cylinder engine delivering 228 hp. Buyers can choose a six‑speed manual or automatic transmission, and the Premium trim adds 18‑inch matte‑black wheels, summer performance tires, adaptive headlights, a rear "duck‑tail" spoiler, heated front seats, aluminum pedals and an eight‑speaker audio system. The car retains a compact interior suited for two adults and a modest 6.3‑cubic‑foot trunk.

Separately, Lexus announced plans for a new generation LFA that will be fully electric, abandoning the V10 engine of the original. Built on the GR GT aluminum chassis, the electric LFA will use a next‑generation solid‑state battery, which promises higher energy density, reduced weight and volume, longer range, faster charging, greater power output and improved safety. Lexus aims to deliver a driving experience that rivals traditional supercars while showcasing the brand’s new battery technology.
