Toyota launches 9th‑gen Hilux pickup in Makassar, Indonesia
Toyota Astra Motor and its local partner Kalla Toyota unveiled the new 9th‑generation Hilux at Atrium Mall Ratu Indah in Makassar on 11 July 2026. The launch highlighted the model’s upgraded 2.8‑litre 2GD‑FTV diesel engine delivering 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque, a higher ground clearance and a new “Cyber SUMO” exterior design. Safety features now include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and seven airbags, while cabin tech added a 12.3‑inch multimedia screen and Multi‑Terrain Select.
The lineup offers both double‑cabin and single‑cabin variants, with on‑the‑road prices in Makassar ranging from IDR 436.5 million to IDR 604.9 million. Toyota also introduced a battery‑electric Hilux (BEV) equipped with a 59 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery, two electric motors and a 144 kW output, priced at about IDR 1.032 billion. The company cited a national Hilux market‑share rise to roughly 70 % and an 84 % share in Sumatra as evidence of strong demand for the rugged pickup.
The launch is part of Toyota’s “Multi‑Pathway Mobility” strategy aimed at expanding diesel performance while advancing electrified commercial‑vehicle options for Indonesia’s mining, plantation, construction and logistics sectors.
