Toyota Gazoo Racing launches affordable GR Kart in Japan
Toyota’s performance division, Gazoo Racing, has launched the GR Kart in Japan, an entry-level racing vehicle designed to make motorsport more accessible to families and children. Priced at 385,000 yen (approximately $2,500), the kart aims to lower the economic and logistical barriers typically associated with competitive karting.
To facilitate ease of use, the GR Kart features a 215cc four-stroke engine and a belt-drive system instead of a traditional chain to reduce maintenance mess. The vehicle is engineered for practical ownership: it can be stored upright without leaking fluids due to a specialized diaphragm carburetor and fuel system, and its dimensions allow it to fit inside Toyota minivans like the Noah or Voxy without disassembly.
Designed for versatility, the kart includes adjustable pedals and a tiltable steering wheel to accommodate drivers ranging from 135 cm to 185 cm in height. Toyota has also established the Gamagori GR KART Office for small-scale production to support this initiative. The product will be available at select GR Garage locations and approximately 36 karting tracks across Japan.
