Toyota launches new Hilux pickup in India with 204 PS diesel engine

Toyota Kirloskar Motor introduced the ninth‑generation Hilux in India, pricing the new lifestyle pickup at ₹31.99 lakh ex‑showroom. Bookings opened on 28 July, with customer deliveries slated for the second week of August 2026. The model is offered in three automatic variants – 4X4 VX, 4X4 GX and 4X2 GX – and retains the 2.8‑litre four‑cylinder BS6 Phase 2 diesel engine that produces 204 PS (150 kW) and 500 Nm of torque, paired with a six‑speed automatic transmission.

The updated Hilux features a substantially restyled exterior, a larger infotainment system, connected‑car technology and an expanded suite of safety and convenience items. However, the launch also omits several features present on the outgoing model: dual‑zone climate control is replaced by manual AC, a manual gearbox is no longer offered, alloy wheels are limited to 17‑inch across all trims, rear‑air‑ventilation and powered driver seats are absent, the interior now uses fabric upholstery instead of leatherette, and the vehicle does not include a mild‑hybrid system. These deletions have been highlighted by reviewers as notable regressions for a vehicle in this price segment.
