Toyota leads Spanish vehicle registrations for five-star safety ratings

A report for Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) reveals the automotive brands with the highest number of five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings registered during the first quarter of 2025.

Toyota led the ranking with 24,016 five-star vehicles, followed by Volkswagen with 23,526 and Renault with 20,097. These three brands accounted for approximately 11%, 10%, and 9% of all five-star vehicles registered in the period, respectively. Other top manufacturers included Kia, Mercedes-Benz, SEAT, Ford, Nissan, Audi, and BMW.

The study, conducted by Applus+ IDIADA, notes that 70.5% of all vehicles receiving a rating achieved the maximum five-star score. The data reflects the total volume of high-safety vehicles registered rather than the average safety score per manufacturer.
