Toyota Motor Philippines previews Tamaraw MPUV
Toyota Motor Philippines has previewed the Tamaraw MPUV Class 1, a modernized public utility vehicle conversion, at its manufacturing plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna. The vehicle received approval from the Department of Transportation to serve as a modernized PUV.
The Tamaraw MPUV features a long wheelbase utility van configuration designed to seat up to 12 occupants, including two front-facing seats and 10 bench-style rear seats. Key amenities include air-conditioning, onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi, an automatic fare collection system for contactless payments, and a CCTV system with both front- and cabin-facing cameras. For safety, the vehicle is equipped with an emergency exit via the rear window and an emergency hammer.
Under the hood, the MPUV is powered by a 2.4-liter diesel engine producing approximately 148 to 150 horsepower and 343 Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The vehicle measures 5,068 mm in length, 1,785 mm in width, and 2,280 mm in height, maintaining a turning radius of 5.45 meters.
Developed through feedback from local government units, transport cooperatives, and government agencies, the Tamaraw MPUV is locally manufactured at the Santa Rosa plant. It is priced at P1,389,000 and is expected to be officially launched at the Philippine International Truck Show in October 2026.
