Toyota MR2 rumors spark interest amid September vehicle sales shifts

Reports regarding the potential 2028 revival of the Toyota MR2 have generated significant social media interest. The rumored next-generation mid-ship sports car may feature a newly developed 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine capable of producing over 400ps. Additionally, speculation suggests the model could adopt an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, a departure from the rear-wheel-drive configuration of previous generations.

In the Japanese automotive market, September 2026 sales data shows the Toyota Noah/Voxy and Suzuki Landy combination reclaimed the top spot for passenger and compact cars with 13,325 units. The Toyota Sienta followed in second place, while the Alphard/Vellfire series took third. Conversely, the combination of Daihatsu Rocky, Toyota Raize, and Subaru Rex fell to 12th place, seeing a registration decrease of approximately 50 percent compared to the previous month.
