Toyota forms strategic alliance with China's FAW and GAC
Toyota Motor Corp. has entered into a new three-way strategic alliance with Chinese state-owned automakers China FAW Corp. and Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) to accelerate the development of electric vehicles and smart automotive technologies.
The agreement aims to deepen existing relationships through their respective joint ventures, FAW Toyota Motor Co. and GAC Toyota Motor Co. As part of the initial phase, GAC will acquire China FAW's 50 percent equity stake in FAW Toyota through a stock issuance, which will result in China FAW becoming a key strategic shareholder of GAC.
The alliance is designed to foster collaboration across several business functions, including research and development, procurement, production, and sales. This move comes as Toyota faces intensifying competition from local Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers and seeks to bolster its presence in the world's largest automotive market.
