Toyota plans return of Celica sport coupe
Toyota is reportedly developing a new generation of the Celica sport coupe, aiming to revive the iconic nameplate as part of a broader strategy to bring back its 'three brothers'—the Supra, MR2, and Celica.
Speculation suggests the new model may feature a hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Technical reports indicate the vehicle could be based on the upcoming Corolla platform. Two distinct versions are rumored: a standard hybrid coupe for general drivers and a high-performance GR version. The GR variant is expected to utilize a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, potentially producing around 400 horsepower, similar to technology found in the GR Yaris.
While Toyota has not provided official timelines, a prototype with a new two-door body style has been sighted, potentially linked to a planned entry into the 2027 World Rally Championship. The new Celica is expected to compete in the sports coupe market against models like the Honda Prelude.
