Toyota prepares 13th-generation Corolla for 2028 release

Toyota is developing the 13th generation of the Corolla, the world's best-selling car model, which is expected to debut in mid-2027 as a 2028 model. This new iteration is anticipated to feature a more disruptive design compared to its previous 12 generations to remain competitive in a changing market.

A significant strategic shift involves China. While Toyota already produces the Corolla in China through its alliance with FAW to serve the domestic market, the company has confirmed that vehicles produced in China will also be exported to other regions, including Europe. This move aims to leverage lower production costs.

The upcoming generation is expected to offer a variety of powertrain options, including internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and electric vehicles. This follows a broader industry trend of redefining production plans in response to fluctuating fuel prices and the evolving landscape of electric mobility.
