Toyota prepares next-generation Corolla with new hybrid technology

Toyota is preparing to launch the next generation of the Corolla, with design and technological details emerging via the 2027 Crown sedan and a leaked documentary image from NHK. The upcoming 13th generation Corolla is expected to debut by the end of 2026.

Key technical updates include the adoption of the TNGA-K modular platform. Toyota plans a multi-energy approach, offering internal combustion (ICE), hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and battery electric (BEV) powertrain options. The hybrid models will utilize the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) to improve fuel efficiency and acceleration response.

Design elements anticipated for the new generation include a silhouette similar to a coupe, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and high-resolution multimedia systems. Safety features will see an evolution of the Toyota Safety Sense package, including advanced lane-keeping and traffic-jam assist functions, alongside the Toyota Teammate system for automated parking and driving assistance.
