Toyota recalls over 24,000 Sienna Hybrids in Canada

Toyota is recalling approximately 24,454 Sienna Hybrid minivans in Canada from the 2022 to 2026 model years due to a defect in the second-row seat recliners.

Transport Canada reported that the locking mechanisms for these recliners may disengage during a collision when the seatbelt pretensioners activate. This failure could cause the seatbacks to move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

Toyota has advised owners not to carry passengers in the second-row seats until the repair is completed. The remedy involves a software update to the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit, which manages the seatbelt pretensioners. Affected owners will be notified by mail and should contact a Toyota dealership to have the update performed.
