Toyota remains world's top automaker despite global sales decline

Toyota has maintained its position as the world's top-selling automaker for the seventh consecutive year, delivering 5.39 million vehicles in the first half of the year. While this surpasses Volkswagen's 4.13 million units, Toyota's global sales saw a 2.8% year-on-year decline, driven by weakening demand in China and supply chain disruptions in the Middle East.

Despite global fluctuations, Toyota saw growth in its electrified vehicle segment, with hybrid sales rising 9.1% to 2.71 million units and pure electric vehicle sales increasing approximately 2.4 times. In Japan, domestic sales grew by 4.4%, supported by the bZ4X model.

In the Vietnamese market, the B-segment sedan segment experienced a significant downturn in August, recording its lowest sales volume of the year due to seasonal consumer trends. Within this segment, the Toyota Vios reclaimed the top sales position, while the Mazda2 overtook the Honda City and Hyundai Accent in market rankings.
