Toyota Supra celebrates 40 years of five generations
The Toyota Supra marks 40 years of production, spanning five distinct generations of the iconic sports coupe. The model's history began in 1978 with the Celica Supra (A40/A50), which utilized inline six-cylinder engines.
Following the A60 generation in 1981, the third generation (A70) debuted in 1986, officially adopting the standalone Supra name across all markets. This era introduced the 3.0 DOHC 7M-GTE engine and advanced features like triple-channel ABS.
The fourth generation (A80), introduced in 1993, achieved legendary status through its use of aluminum components and the 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE engines. This model also saw success in motorsports, including participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The fifth generation (A90) debuted in 2019 as the first global model developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing, continuing the lineage with a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine.
