Toyota to invest 1.49 billion baht in Thailand's first hydrogen pickup production

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved an additional 1.49 billion baht (approximately 7 billion yen) investment by Toyota Motor Thailand to produce hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) pickup trucks. This marks the first production of such vehicles in Thailand.

Located at the Ban Pho plant in Chachoengsao province, the new production line for the New Hilux model is expected to have an annual capacity of 3,000 units. Operations are slated to begin in December 2027. The initial output will be dedicated entirely to export markets, specifically targeting Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

The project involves installing assembly equipment for key FCEV components, including hydrogen tanks, fuel cells, battery packs, electric motors, and power control units. Toyota also plans to install hydrogen refueling facilities at the plant for production and testing purposes. The investment aims to strengthen the local supply chain by utilizing approximately 640 million baht worth of domestic parts and materials annually.
