Toyota to launch Haluto medical care wheelchair in 2026

Toyota Motor Corporation, in collaboration with Imasen Seisakusho, has announced the launch of ‘Haluto’, a modular tilt-and-reclining wheelchair designed specifically for children and individuals requiring medical care. Starting in October 2026, the company will offer a limited number of units as part of a demonstration experiment.

The wheelchair was developed following more than 500 interviews with users and their families to address challenges such as monitoring medical conditions during transit and managing heavy medical equipment. A key feature is its rear-facing vehicle mounting design, which allows drivers to easily monitor users for signs of seizures or respiratory distress.

Designed for versatility, the Haluto can achieve a near-flat position to facilitate tasks like diaper changes. It includes storage capacity for essential medical supplies, such as oxygen cylinders and suction machines. The system is compatible with specific vehicle models, primarily wheelchair-accessible versions of the Toyota Noah and Voxy, with vehicle conversions handled by Mikuni Life & Auto. The device supports users with heights between 100–160 cm and weights up to 40 kg.
