Toyota to manufacture first electric Hilux in Argentina
Toyota plans to manufacture the first 100% electric version of the Hilux pickup at its Zárate plant in Argentina. This battery electric vehicle (BEV) will represent the first mass-scale electric vehicle produced in the country.
The initial rollout of the electric Hilux will target the mining and industrial sectors rather than the mass consumer market. This strategic approach leverages the predictable routes and centralized charging capabilities found in mining and construction operations, mirroring a similar model used by the company in Australia.
While the BEV targets specialized industries, Toyota intends to offer hybrid variants for large-scale commercialization to the general public alongside traditional diesel engines.
