Toyota unveils ninth‑generation Hilux with full‑electric model

Toyota announced the ninth generation of its flagship Hilux pickup, slated for launch in 2026. The redesign keeps the vehicle’s rugged dimensions while adding a modern exterior, a larger digital instrument cluster up to 12.3 inches and an interior inspired by the Land Cruiser.

The powertrain range is expanded to include the traditional 2.8‑litre diesel engine paired with a 48 V mild‑hybrid system, as well as a fully electric version. The electric Hilux is equipped with a 59.2 kWh battery delivering an estimated 257 km (WLTP) range and can charge from 10 % to 80 % in about 30 minutes. A hydrogen fuel‑cell model is planned for 2028. Payload capacity remains above 1 000 kg and towing capacity up to 3.5 tonnes.

Field testing in the Bulgarian Stara Planina mountains highlighted the vehicle’s off‑road capability and confirmed that the new design and electronics meet the brand’s durability standards.
