Toyota announces Corolla 60th anniversary editions and future hybrid updates
Toyota is introducing several updates to its vehicle lineup to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Corolla. In Europe, the brand has launched the ‘Style 60 Aniversario’ special edition for the Corolla, featuring a two-tone blue and black exterior, 17-inch alloy wheels, and exclusive interior branding. The European Corolla range is shifting toward hybrid power, including hatchback, sedan, and Touring Sports models.
In Japan, the Corolla Cross is receiving updates, including the new ‘Z Adventure’ special edition. This model features a rugged outdoor design with blacked-out trim, matte gray wheels, and a dual-tone color scheme. Additionally, the Corolla Cross lineup is transitioning to a hybrid-only powertrain, with the GR Sport variant offering a more powerful 2.0-liter hybrid system.
Looking toward future developments, Toyota is working on a next-generation Corolla expected around 2027. This upcoming model is anticipated to include a variety of powertrains, including fully electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options, utilizing a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine designed to improve fuel efficiency by 10% to 20% compared to current systems. The company has also confirmed progress on its first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).
Separately, the Yaris Cross continues to be noted for its hybrid efficiency, with real-world testing showing competitive fuel economy in urban and suburban environments.
