Toyota updates Crown Sport SUV with new hybrid system and PHEV trims
Toyota has announced a minor update to its Crown Sport SUV, with sales scheduled to begin on September 21, 2026. The update introduces several technical and trim enhancements across the model lineup, which includes both hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
A key feature of this update is the implementation of Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system in the HEV models. This change increases the front motor output from 120ps to 135ps, improving both driving performance and fuel efficiency, with the WLTC mode rating rising from 21.3km/L to 22.4km/L.
The PHEV lineup has also been expanded with the addition of a new ‘Z’ grade. This provides a more affordable alternative to the top-tier ‘RS’ grade, reducing the entry price for a PHEV by approximately 849,200 yen. The flagship RS model features a combined system output of 306 horsepower, 21-inch wheels, and red brake calipers.
Other notable updates include the standardization of paddle shifters across all grades, an upgraded Toyota Premium Sound System for the RS and Z trims, and the introduction of a new ‘Neutral Black’ exterior color.
