Toyota updates GR86 with refined driving dynamics and safety tech

Toyota Gazoo Racing has announced updates to the GR86 for the Japanese market, focusing on refined driving dynamics and safety technology rather than raw power. Key mechanical improvements include a more linear and natural throttle response to assist with control on wet or snowy surfaces, as well as modifications to the electric power steering to improve stability during high-speed cornering and on uneven roads.

For manual transmission enthusiasts, Toyota has implemented a 0.5 mm adjustment to the gear shift linkage between fourth and fifth gears to ensure smoother downshifting. The safety suite, EyeSight, has also been upgraded from a dual-camera system to a triple-camera setup, adding an ultra-wide-angle monocular camera to expand the field of view.

In addition to the consumer models, the racing-spec GR86 Cup Car Basic will now be available with a six-speed automatic transmission in addition to the existing manual option. Aesthetic updates include the return of the ‘Solid Gray’ paint color and refined interior details for the RZ trim, such as cast-iron black switches and updated color accents.
