Toyotomi brothers' historical impact explored through castle and military lectures

Historical lectures regarding the Toyotomi brothers and their impact on Japan's transition from the medieval to the early modern period have been held in Gobo City. Hironori Shiraishi, representative of the Wakayama Castle Research Association, delivered a presentation focusing on the Kishu campaign led by Hideyoshi and Hidenaga Toyotomi in 1585.

Shiraishi explained how the campaign transformed the Kii region from a state of fragmented power held by local clans and religious institutions into a unified territory under the central authority of the Toyotomi brothers. The lecture detailed military strategies, such as the massive water siege of Ota Castle, and the architectural features of Wakayama Castle, which was built by Hidenaga to secure the region.

Additionally, academic programs are being offered to explore the Toyotomi era through the lens of castle architecture and military battles. These sessions, led by castle expert Yasunori Owada, cover key unification campaigns including the Kishu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Odawara campaigns, examining the roles of specific fortifications and the strategic contributions of Hidenaga.
